HP will announce the next generation of PA-RISC(PA8800)
HP will announce the next generation of Precision Architecture RISC (PA-8800) in Feb,2004. The following new models together with PA-8800 will be available from your quotation system in Watson.
New Models to be launched:
* (PA-8800): rp34x0, rp4440-8, rp7420 and rp8420, Superdome
* (Itanium): rx1600, rx2600 (1.0GMhz, 1.4GMhz)
About PA-8800:
* The PA-8800 is a dual-core, 1GHz/900Mhz microprocessor chip that offers a compelling, balanced increase in performance over PA-8700+ in a broad range of commercial and technical computing applications. Key advances over the previous generation PA-8700+ are greater compute density, a higher bandwidth system bus, and a large second level cache.
* This translates into a significant performance boost. Simulations at 1GHz indicate that PA-8800 will deliver a 50% increase in SPECfp_base2000 and a 31% increase in SPECint_base2000 performance over the PA-8700+ processor. A performance increase of 43% is anticipated for the OLTP performance of a four-CPU system running Oracle 10i on HP-UX. Technical apps will likewise see a boost in the 20-60% range with an average of 40% increase.
* In addition to the performance increases, PA-8800 also provides significant advances in high availability and power reduction over the previous generations of PA-RISC processors.
